about
Inspiration for this collection came from a variety of sources: Edward Hopper paintings, the border trilogy books of Cormac McCarthy, travel and a sense of place and belonging (or not). Guitar is the main instrument throughout - on some pieces that's all there is, on others the soundscape is augmented with rhythmic elements.
Lloyd Cole says this about Sundogs:
"Guitar is a tough instrument as the lead (for a whole tune) but he’s got the balance just right on this collection. It’s almost minimalist,.... but it isn’t quite – there’s just the right amount of harmony and counter rhythm. He’s channeling Frissell one minute and Keith the next, but he’s so much his own man that he doesn’t sound even slightly derivative."
